About our Program

Our Program is transitioning to a full time, 36 month long practice doctorate program that enables registered nurses to become Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).  We anticipate approval of this doctoral program by June 2016.

We have an Academic Affiliation Agreement with Central Connecticut State University which grants the Doctorate in Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) degree. The program is partially front-loaded with a full year of didactic foundational sciences courses at the university. This is followed by the 2 year long clinical phase offered at Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. There are anesthesia related courses throughout the clinical phase.  The Conducting Organization is Integrated Anesthesia Associates, a large , private corporation of anesthesiologists. IAA provides the clinical faculty which is composed of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Board Certified Anesthesiologists.

Initial applications are submitted to the Program Director at Hartford Hospital. The Program Director reviews the application for its merits and forwards all official transcripts to the Graduate Office at CCSU for their approval. Applications received by September 30th of each year will be considered for interview. Interviews are conducted in the fall and granted to individuals who meet all program requirements. Acceptance decisions are usually made by early December. We plan to accept a class of 10-12. Classes at the university begin in mid-May.

The following 24 months (clinical phase) are spent at our two clinical sites: Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children's Hospital. We anticipate that the average student will perform an average of 750 cases and 2560 clinical hours. There is a full didactic class day each week.  There are scheduled clinical conferences and meetings throughout the program, including Saturdays.
